Meet Your Facilitators
Kiersten
Kiersten Kanaster, M.M., is Founder, Facilitator and Coach at Beyond High C. Kiersten combines her masters degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy with her experience as a professional musical theater actor and the great advice and counsel of her growing bullpen of trusted speech therapists to create programs that help people with aphasia and survivors of stroke and brain injury achieve their speech goals.
Kiersten lives and works in Virginia, where there is never a dull moment thanks to her energetic 11 year old son and their many foster golden retriever rescue dogs.
Sierra
Sierra Fisk, B.A., finds a lot of joy in building community and connecting people in new ways. Sierra studied theatre at UC San Diego. Not only is she a theatre producer and acting coach in Los Angeles, she is a sensitive and compassionate coach who cares very deeply about the challenges and success of our participants!
Sierra goes off the grid for a bit each summer, volunteering at a camp for at-risk youth on an island!
Courtney
Courtney Moon, B.A., graduated from California State University, Long Beach, where she studied communication. Courtney cares very much about the goals and struggles our participants face. She loves offering a mix of fun and useful exercises to help to foster big speech progress. She draws on her Disney, musical theater and teaching experience to entertain and support participants. Courtney lives in Southern California where she also shares her talents with the School of Rock.
Courtney often finds herself stuck in bed under her big cuddly cat, Prince.

General FAQ
Are you Speech Therapists?
Good question. No we are not speech therapists. We love and respect speech therapists and the good work they do. We have not studied speech therapy and do not replace speech therapy. Our programs are a great place to practice the good tools, skills and strategies you gain in speech therapy. Many of our participants are either in speech therapy now, or will be again at some point, and we encourage this. We model our work with you on the "Life Participation Approach" which encourages real life connection and context for your developing speech and language skills. We are your communication practice partners and we approach helping you practice your speech skills in line with the way your loved ones may be guided to assist and cue you.
What if I can't get the technology to work?
We have nearly 10 years of experience now, guiding and supporting participants when they are struggling with getting something to work. We can communicate with you via email, phone call, text or schedule a Zoom call to help fix any issue you might be having. We intentionally choose to use the simplest technology we can find, in order to make it as easy on everyone as possible right from the start, dialing down the number of complications and issues in the first place. We care very deeply about your success and your satisfaction and will work directly with you to solve any issue!
Beyond HIgh C Class FAQ
What if I’m not ready for live sessions?
We created Say More Academy to help you gradually become comfortable with your ability to say words to others. We encourage you to attend our live review sessions, but they are not required. You can stay on mute the whole time if you wish, but we bet as you practice with us, you will gradually become brave enough to press the unmute button! You will likely come to a place where you are comfortable enough and really ready to take your communication to a higher level. It may be time for Beyond High C class in that case!
What if I register for class but have a doctor's appointment or plan to go out of town?
You register for Beyond High C class one 8 week series at a time. If you have a doctor's appointment or another conflict come up during your class time, we have several other classes at that same level through the week. You are welcome to attend a different class that week. Attending a different class is actually a great exercise for your developing communication skills and confidence! Going out of town? Let us know + we can arrange prorated registration for the time you want to attend your class.
What if I can't get my words out in class?
We are here to help! We have several years of experience working with participants at several levels: from saying few or no words, to knowing how to enter a conversation with your good ideas. We support you with visuals, cues and a lot of calm positivity. We may coordinate with you to help you (and maybe your loved ones) prepare for what you want to say in class. We can offer a short after class exercise designed to reinforce the good work you did in class, and carry it in to the next week. This seems to be extremely helpful for those really struggling inside class!

How does the Facebook group help me?
The Facebook group is your daily connection to us! We are LIVE inside the Facebook group every weekday to offer a LIVE interactive practice, cheer you on, and remind you- you are not alone. When you are ready, posting your video or audio responses, words or ideas in the Facebook group can be an extremely great exercise. It’s a big step above practicing on your own at home, knowing your colleagues and the Say More Academy facilitators are ready to listen and wanting to understand what you have to say! We are getting set to roll out a Facebook Live Guest Appearance program for our willing Say More Academy Subscribers! They are excited and so are we! This is an EXCELLENT way to boost your confidence in your ability to get your words and ideas out under pressure!

What if I want to cancel?
You can cancel your subscription at any time. Just let us know you want to cancel. Email is the easiest way to do that.
How do I see my exercises?
We have a portal. When you become a participant, you get access to the portal where the exercises live. We load freshly created exercises into the portal every weekend. Also in the portal are two links: one to go to our Facebook Group for live practices and one to enter our Monthly Live Practice on Zoom.
